Riviera Division 1
Ashmoor Men's 2nd XI. 6
Exeter Men's 2nd XI. 1
IN A high-stakes, top-of-the-table clash, Ashmoor 2s took on Exeter 2s, with both teams vying for league dominance.
Playing at home, Ashmoor not only defended their turf but also served up a 6-1 masterclass which often left Exeter chasing shadows.
The game plan of starting high and keeping Exeter pinned back worked like a charm. Within just five minutes, the Robinson twins, Ed and Will, put their sibling connection to good use with a perfectly executed 1-2 that Ed tapped home to start the scoring. With the tone set, Ashmoor didn’t let up.
Ten minutes later, Matt Pearce delivered a precision cross to Tyrone France, who held his ground against a defender, allowing him to slot home Ashmoor’s second goal. Exeter clawed one back with a rare counterattack, but Ashmoor, unfazed, kept pressing.
In the second half, Ashmoor turned up the heat. Pearce, receiving an exquisite pass from Harry Little, blasted a deflection into the roof of the net to make it 3-1.
Dan Green found the bottom corner next, Morgan Stokes created the fifth all for himself and then the sixth was perhaps the pick of the bunch.
Ryan Bougourd sprinted down the right wing, beat his marker, and launched a powerful cross to Green, who latched onto it with a first-time finish and the crowd erupted in response.
Ashmoor are now top of the tree with six wins from six- next up, a trip up the M5 to face Exeter & Culm Vale Hornets.
