STOVER Golf Club professional Andrew Fox, a.k.a. Foxy, hosted his Pro’s Day on Sunday, August 25.
The event was in memory of Foxy’s dad Tony, with all money going towards further research about pancreatic cancer. Everybody had to wear something purple with the purple ribbon being the symbol of awareness.
Tony passed away nearly six years ago and ever since, Foxy has made sure that his memory lasts and this day of golfing fun helped further the understanding of how cruel this cancer is and how late this awful disease is often found.
Here’s hoping that the money raised can go towards finding a cure, or at the very least, a drug to help prolong the journey of survival.
This competition was played as a 4-man team event with plenty of twists, most notably the horrid pin positions which members won’t have thanked him for.
134 golfers took part and the weather cooperated too for Foxy and everyone out on the course. There was a big prize table and raffle prizes were kindly donated, combining this and the various hole sponsors, over £4,500 was raised.
Foxy labelled this as “A truly remarkable amount”, going on to also say “thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the generous giving. Dad would have been very pleased.” His mum Janet Fox was on hand to present the prizes, pictured in the middle of the winners on the day.
Talking of winners and the scores on the door were…
The team of Matt Lyne (2.4), Paul McGlinchey (4.1), Curtis Pyne (8.) and Kyle Beavis (9.4) came out on top with a score of 72 points.
Finishing in second, with 66 points, were Cyril Gosling (4.2), Cyril Gosling Jnr (9.5), Braydon Cotton (7.6) and Nathan Cotton (2.4), six points behind the victors.
Completing the podium was the quartet of Armstrong, Lawrence, Westcott and Davey, on 65 points.
The rest of the scores were as follows: Reburn, Davies and Higgins (64 points), Brooks, Deviell, Jordan and Hayman (64 points), Head, Green, Chapman and Hayman (64 points), Leach, Bannister, Lyne and Hitchcock (63 points), Booth, Silk, Gaskin and Chapman (63 points), Grieve, Steward, Green and Farmer (62 points), and rounding out the top 10, Gillen, Mills, Hayes and Doyle on 61 points.
Foxy would like to thank all who supported him and this great charity on a very important day for his family- it means the world to them. The official number is yet to be confirmed but it is in and around that whopping, approximate figure of £4,500.
