FRIDAY September 27 was a day that the ladies section at Teignmouth Golf Club had all been waiting for.
Both the Still Cup and Sheelah Creasy Bowl teams were in action at the finals day at Torquay GC, so there was a sea of pink.
Many supporters were in attendance and the Still Cup team were first up, teeing off against reigning champions Okehampton.
Susie Carr went out first and after racking up a lead of dormie-3, drove the green on the par four 17th to bring in the first win. Hannah Reynolds was next up and she also came out on top, battling back from 4-down.
After Lorna Elliott pulled off a 4&2 victory, Teignmouth required just one more win.
Sally Tyler lost the final two holes to head down the 19th for a playoff whereas Hannah Stephens was all-square on the 18th tee behind her, so it was a case of who would finish first.
Just as the latter lined up a putt to win it on the last, a cheer went up elsewhere on the course as Kendal Bradley had beaten her to it.
Both Sally and Hannah, along with Rosie Jago, were called in from the course to celebrate the victory with their games becoming inconsequential.
Tears were flowing and there were hugs all around for the Still Cup champions- now to support the Sheelah Creasy team, whose action began at 12:15.
They were up against a very strong Saunton side who had won the Devon League the day prior.
Lorraine Dunn led from the front and after a lot of back-and-forth, she lipped out a putt on hole 17, confirming a 2&1 defeat.
Kathyrn Protheroe hit back with an impressive 5&4 win before Anne Whittaker then lost by the same margin as Lorraine, making it 2-1 after the singles matches were in the books.
Marie Mayne and Lorraine Gorman were the first duo out and they were done by the 14th, coming out on top in a 6&4 thrashing.
All the focus then switched to the final match and after Charlotte Gough & Surya Patterson got off to a nervy start but recovered quickly, dovetailed well and got the job done. Tensions were building in the crowd as they lined up the decisive putt on green 16.
After what seemed like an eternity, it dropped, confirming a second title of the day for Teignmouth!
Players, caddies and supporters alike gathered in the clubhouse for the presentation of their two cups, marking a very welcome return to form for the ladies section.
