TEIGNMOUTH Golf Club’s captains for 2024 recently presented cheques to both of their nominated charities, Alzheimer's Society and Rowcroft Hospice.
A superb total of over £20,000 was raised from various events in a successful year of fundraising, the obvious highlight being Hannah Stephens and Phil Waggett’s 100-hole challenge which raised over £8,000 alone.
Rowcroft are “Honoured to have been chosen as one of the charities to benefit [from this fundraising] and are so grateful for this generous donation of £10,000. It is only through donations such as this that we can continue to provide specialist care and support to our patients and those closest to them.
“Over 80% of the care we provide is given in patients own homes across the 300sq miles of South Devon, delivering vital care and support where and when it is needed the most. We couldn’t do what we do without our amazing community behind us.”
The Alzheimer’s Society echoed these sentiments and are “grateful to everyone” at the club.
“£10,000 is an incredible amount for Alzheimer’s Society which will make a huge difference. Every £60 raised can help pay for a dementia advisor to provide practical and emotional support for half a day.
“Alzheimer’s Society provides vital support to people living with dementia, funds groundbreaking research and campaigns to make dementia the priority it should be. Together, we will end the devastation caused by dementia.
“There are around a million people living with dementia in the UK, with over 100,000 of those living in the South-West of England. But we simply can’t reach everyone without the continued support of our incredible fundraisers like Teignmouth Golf Club.”
