AFTER a late start to the golfing season, Dainton Park has enjoyed a flurry of hole-in-ones, seeing four in just one week recently. These members will all be presented with bespoke canvas gifts at the Annual Dinner & Dance. For context, there were only 12 hole-in-ones for the whole of 2023!

Ed Sosnowski kickstarted proceedings on April 8, achieving a second hole-in-one of his golfing career. Not only did he brave the rain but a perfectly hit five wood rolled sweetly into the bottom of the eighth hole.

Two days later, there was a maiden hole-in-one for one golfer on the fourth hole. Freddie was also braving the conditions alongside Harvey and Jasper when he achieved this marvellous feat. A well-struck nine iron up into the strong wind was flying straight at the pin, and the trio heard the clink of the flag stick. They all ran up to the green and with no ball in sight, the next port of call was to look in the hole, which is exactly where Freddie’s ball was located.

Back to the eighth and Dainton member Kevin Tilling scored an ace for the second time in 18 months on this hole. He reports that it was a well-struck eight iron that looked good all the way. Kevin is well known for cleaning up the nearest-the-pin money from his friends and no doubt he will have another hole-in-one in the near future.

Scott Bond finished off the week of miracles with a hole-in-one on the fourth hole. The hole is blind from the tee box, but the group in front witnessed Scott’s 50-degree wedge carry over the pin by five yards and then spin back perfectly into the back of the cup.

The most recent of these successes came courtesy of Gary Runham on May 14. After not scoring on the 12th, 13th and 14th holes, Gary flushed his 5iron on the 15th. This is Gary’s second hole-in-one, his last being 23 years ago. He celebrated by treating all of the other golfers in the competition to a glass of port.
