BUCKLAND Athletic enjoyed celebrations on and off of the pitch at Homers Heath on Saturday, February 22.
The club debuted their “Forever Yellow Day” to great success with 328 people in attendance for the latest Western Football League outing.
These punters were justly rewarded as Dan Hart’s side earned the three points, courtesy of two first-half goals.
Teigan Rosenquest opened the scoring from out wide after just six minutes with Buckland posting on Twitter: “Not sure he meant it, but we’ll take it.” Rosenquest responded that he had spotted the “keeper off his line” so the jury will remain out on this cross-come-shot.
Less than 10 minutes later, Ben Fowles doubled the lead for the hosts to put them firmly in command of the fixture. In the words of their Twitter page: “Carter tackles well in the centre of the field. Ball pops through, Fowles one on one with the keeper and slots underneath him to double our lead.”
Several chances followed for the Bucks but they were unable to extend their advantage whilst Adam Seedhouse-Evans dealt with what came his way at the other end.
This victory keeps Buckland in fourth in the table with third-placed Brixham AFC and fifth-placed Barnstaple Town both winning as well, beating Paulton Rovers and Saltash United respectively.
Other results on the weekend went to form too with the top two collating three points apiece. Clevedon Town put four past strugglers Welton Rovers whilst Portishead Town overcame seventh-placed Shepton Mallet 2-0 to maintain their hold on the summit (prior to the mammoth, midweek matchup against Clevedon).
Meanwhile, Ivybridge Town’s trip to Nailsea & Tickenham fell foul of the weather, a second successive postponement for the Greens.
Coming up on Saturday, March 1, Buckland held to Portishead of all teams in what will be a huge test of their promotion credentials.
