Rydon Primary School took part in the south west regional U10s’ futsal finals, having qualified for this event by becoming county champions.

At stake was a place in the national finals, which take place in Birmingham.

Rydon’s first match was against local rivals Barton Primary School.

It was a hard fought match with Rydon coming from behind twice to win 3-2.

The next game saw the Kingsteignton school beaten 3-1 by Easton, before going on to beat Salisbury 4-1 and Paulton 5-2.

It came down to the final game between Barton and Salisbury to see if Rydon would progress.

Barton needed to win and score two goals in the process.

However, some good saves from the Salisbury keeper meant that they drew 2-2, the result confirming Rydon as south west regional U10s’ futsal champions.

‘All of the boys played amazingly well and deserve the opportunity to compete at the nationals in June,’ said a spokesman for the school.

‘Rydon had terrific support from family members and a big thanks from the school goes to them.’
