A LONG-SERVING Saints Southwest defender has recently surpassed a whopping 150 appearances for the club.
Devon Under-16s centre-half Jack Alcock reached the impressive milestone during his side’s clash at home to North Somerset RTC in January.
Jack played his first game in 2016, back in the days of Arsenal Soccer School.
‘I am very proud of this milestone and to play for such a great club,’ said Jack.
Jack was selected for the Devon Regional Squad having been successful at two open trials where he competed against 50 other boys.
During his time with Saints, Jack has played against a number of professional clubs – including Cheltenham, Southampton, Exeter City and Plymouth Argyle.
But his most memorable experience was an away game against West Ham. ‘That was a rare day off school and an overnight stay,’ recalled Jack. ‘Although we lost narrowly, the experience will live with me forever.’
Jack trains with the Devon squad twice per week in Ashburton and then plays in the national Junior Premier League on a Saturday.
‘The standard of opposition we play against is always high,’ Jack added. ‘Saints have really developed me not only as a footballer but also as a person.’
Saints Southwest director Mark Titchard, who coaches the Under-16 side, also expressed his delight at Jack’s achievement.
‘Jack is a top lad,’ Mark said. ‘He’s a prime example of someone who’s been on a professional football development journey with us and has really developed both on and off the pitch.
‘With the support of his coaches and a fantastic family, Jack has not just developed into a very able footballer – but also a great young man.
‘Everyone at Saints congratulates Jack on making it to 150 appearances and counting. We know that he certainly isn’t finished yet!’
l Saints Southwest will be holding open trials for a brand new Saints Southwest Devon Under-18s side very soon.
