BOVEY Tracey AFC recently held their end-of-season awards evening following what has been an intriguing year for the South Devon club.
Tony Radford began the campaign as the 1st XI manager and was then replaced by his assistant Matt Hayden in mid-November. His time in charge was cut short in March with former Torquay United man Ben Gerring the third individual to take permanent charge at Mill Marsh Park.
The Moorlanders concluded the season with five wins on the spin, Gerring take charge of four of those and they proved to be clinical in front of goal, scoring 19 times in that period. They scored three away at Honiton Town and Middlezoy Rovers, before notching four, five and four in home victories over Axminster Town, Stoke Gabriel & Torbay Police and Crediton United respectively.
Back to the awards evening and there were plenty handed out to honour the hard work put in by those both on and off of the pitch.
It was a particularly successful evening for 1st XI star Neil Last as he was the side’s top goalscorer, manager’s player, player’s player and supporter’s player of the year.
Last wasn’t the only first-teamer to be recognised though as Cal Leech was given the goal of the season prize.
Onto the 2nd XI and there was more variety here, Ben Moyle as their top scorer, Ryan Stanbridge as the manager’s player and Tom Mudge the player’s player for the 2024/24 campaign.
The final three awards saw Tyrone McVeigh earn the sportsman’s award, Jade Brett the club person award whilst Rachel Vallance collected the chairman’s award.
Bovey’s reserves, playing in Division One of the South Devon Football League, ended their season on the field with sizable wins over Brixham Town and Ivybridge Town 2nd XI, cementing a fourth-place finish as a result.
