ON a blustery but thankfully dry afternoon on Sunday, Dawlish Women Walking Football Club headed to Tiverton for their first tournament of the year, writes Kirsten Pybus.
Organised by Mid Devon Women Walking Football Club at Exe Valley leisure Centre, two teams from each of Dawlish, Mid Devon and Braunston took part in a round robin competition.
The objective of the day was to give new players a match experience in a friendly, non-judgemental environment.
No official results table was maintained, however at the end of each match the referee nominated a player of the game. Dawlish players Tracey, Angio and Laura were each awarded these honours.
Special mention should go to Laura who was playing her first ever match, having only joined the team in November and never played football before.
The afternoon was a huge success, and the games were played in a friendly yet competitive atmosphere where the objective was all about encouragement and effort.
Dawlish will be back facing new opposition on Tuesday, January 31 when they travel to Paignton to play Stroke City Walking Football Team and Plymouth on Sunday, February 26, when they face Dobwalls Walking Football Club, respectively.
Women’s Walking Football is a fast-growing sport. Anyone interested in playing, who has previous football or team sport experience, can visit the Dawlish Women Walking Football Facebook page or email [email protected].
Alternatively the club can sign post to other sessions for beginners.
