BOVEY Tracey AFC climbed up to ninth in the South West Peninsula Premier East courtesy of a Cal Leech hat-trick at Mill Marsh Park.
Leech scored all three goals in the game as Torrington AFC were condemned to an 18th defeat of the campaign and sent home empty-handed.
After two first-half strikes, Leech completed the treble in the 76th minute on home soil whilst the club’s Twitter account wrote: “Leech no doubt takes the plaudits but a monster performance from a handful of players out there!”
Elsewhere in the division, Stoke Gabriel & Torbay Police put six unanswered goals past Teignmouth AFC; Josh Haynes, Finley Herbert, Jed Roberts, Sol Barclay, Elliott Simson and an own goal all featuring on the scoresheet.
This fixture was scheduled to take place at Teignmouth’s Coombe Valley ground but a land slip saw the sides switch around and so perhaps getting games played is the more important factor here for them.
Stoke’s impressive run shows no signs of letting up and they are now in third, with the chance to leapfrog second-place Cullompton Rangers thanks to their three games in hand. Next up for them at Broadley Lane is a matchup against the leaders Sidmouth Town which promises to be a fascinating encounter.
Sidmouth drew away at Bishops Lydeard, a decimated Okehampton Argyle side let a two-goal advantage slip at Honiton Town and there were wins for Middlezoy Rovers, Bridport FC and the aforementioned Cully.
Newton Abbot Spurs had a week off of SWPL play to play in the first of the four Walter C Parson League Cup quarter-finals. After 120 minutes of goalless football, Spurs unfortunately lost out on penalties to Crediton United.
Coming up next, Bovey head to Honiton, Spurs welcome Middlezoy to The Rec and Teignmouth’s meeting with Bishops Lydeard has been rearranged to take place at the latter’s ground.
