JARED Lewington scored the only goal on Saturday, April 5 as Buckland Athletic collected a huge three points on their travels.
This 1-0 win away at Shepton Mallet not only gets revenge for the defeat in the reverse fixture at Homers Heath by the same scoreline but also is key in the Bucks’ Western League playoff push.
Having lost three games on the spin, Dan Hart’s side have since picked up seven points from nine available and now have four fixtures left to cement their top-five position.
Elsewhere, there were wins for Newton Abbot Spurs and Bovey Tracey in the South West Peninsula League whilst Teignmouth AFC were beaten by Torridgeside AFC.
Harry Breslan and George Mulford scored to set Teigns on their way but in the words of their Twitter account: “With decisions not going our way, Torridgeside capitalised and took the momentum, scoring a penalty and three well-taken goals in 20 second-half minutes.”
Spurs overcame Okehampton Argyle 2-1 at The Rec thanks to goals from Tate Breslan-Aggrey and Aiden Blackie whereas Bovey took all three points from their clash with Middlezoy Rovers. The final score was 3-2 with Neil Last (2) and Jack Brimming scoring the goals for the visitors.
Finally now to the Devon Football League and it was a fascinating weekend at the foot of the table.
A goalless draw for Bere Alston United moved them out of the bottom two at the expense of North Molton Sports Club, who themselves were beaten by rock-bottom Ipplepen Athletic. The Pens’ looked adrift but this 1-0 win moves them (15pts) within a point of North Molton (16pts)- Bere Alston one further ahead (17pts).
Further twists and turns await as Bere Alston will cross paths with both Ipplepen and North Molton towards the end of this month!
