BOVEY Tracey AFC announced the departure of their manager Tony Radford on Sunday, October 6, in the wake of their home defeat to a high-flying Okehampton Argyle outfit.
Their Twitter post reads “It’s with regret we share that Tony Radford has decided to stand down as First Team Manager”, going on to add “It’s been a pleasure to have such a dedicated, passionate and overall great leader.”
Radford told the Mid-Devon Advertiser that this decision “Wasn’t taken lightly and has been in my thoughts for a few weeks. Football has started taking over my home and work life.”
Bovey are struggling in the South West Peninsula League Premier East at this point in time, sitting 14th with two wins and six defeats.
Last season was a hugely successful one under Radford’s stewardship though, finishing second in the division, only being bettered by a remarkable Ivybridge Town squad. Wayne Gamble’s Greens romped to the title, winning 27 of their 32 games, and it was unfortunate for Bovey that only one team would be promoted.
Radford commented that, “After finishing second last season, I hoped this season was going to be something. A turbulent pre-season has unfortunately followed us into the season.”
He delivered a very earnest outlook on his 18-month tenure before signing off in a classy nature, “Maybe a new face and voice can turn things around there is a lot of talent there.”
Singing the praises of a number of dedicated individuals, “What an amazing football club and of course it is amazing because of the people within it.”
Finally: “Until the next one, thank you Bovey Tracey AFC.”
