MERYN Kitching proudly represented Mid Devon Cycling Club at Odd Down, securing a phenomenal 3rd place after a nail-biting finish, narrowly missing out on 2nd amidst a fierce local challenge.
Meanwhile, on Friday night, Bayley Woodger fearlessly battled the Welsh champions on the track at Newport. In a bold move, Bayley tackled the 500m sprint and 2km pursuit for the very first time. He delivered a solid 10th place in the 500m and a commendable 15th in the 2km, showcasing his adaptability and determination.
Saturday's Icebreaker series finale at the Newport track proved eventful. Matt Holmes demonstrated his growing strength, achieving 12th in the scratch race, 13th in the elimination, and a powerful performance in the points race.
Bayley Woodger, despite a cancelled scratch race due to multiple crashes, showcased significant progress in his debut track season, finishing 7th in the elimination and 10th in the points.
Sunday's Welsh Championship Day 2 saw both riders back in action at Newport. In the scratch race, Matt secured 8th, and Bayley 11th. The points race saw Bayley launch with a blistering start, taking 4th in the first sprint, and Matt claiming 3rd in the second. Bayley then withdrew due to fatigue whilst Matt secured a hard-fought 7th place.
The South West Series kicked off at Wheal Jane in Cornwall, where Wheel Velocity hosted a series of thrilling races.
In the U10 category, George Bleloch secured a strong 3rd place, while Freddie Simcock took a well-deserved 2nd in the U12 boys. Lauren Fox dominated the U14 girls, claiming victory, and Thomas Bleloch finished a solid 5th in the U14 boys.
The U16 boys' race delivered a spectacular showdown, with Meryn Kitching (pictured) executing a brilliant tactical move on the final climb, outsmarting his rivals to seize his first-ever race win. Ben Picton followed closely, finishing 4th. Eva Fox capped off a remarkable weekend, claiming her first senior road race victory in the women's category.
