GOING up! South Devon are heading back to the C Division West after a year’s absence after securing the runners-up spot in the D Division West with a 32-run win over Chelston & Kingskerswell.
Richard Beumont’s side have occupied one of the promotion spots continuously since the start of the season and it has long been a case of when and not if they could be certain of going up.
Also returning to the division they were in last season are Chelston & Kingskerswell, who cannot avoid relegation now as they are 32 points adrift at the bottom with 20 to play for.
James Allen opened-up with a brisk 34 for South Devon in a running total of 46 for one.
There was a brief slowdown before Toby Goodman (34), Joe Kitto (35) and Otty Yip (29) moved the score along towards a final total of 206 for eight.
Vivek Kulkarni, the Chelston & Kingskerswell captain, took two for 35 bowling against one of his former clubs.
And there was a frugal nine-over spell Akshay Bharadwaj that only cost 19 runs.
Kulkarni (44) played the anchorman role for his side with an opening knock that took the tally to 82 for five.
Mustavi Emdad (48) and Steve Waters (20) kept the runs coming slowly, but at 168 for six with only three overs to go it was game over.
Chelston & Kingskerswell lost their final four wickets in just 13 deliveries as they tailed-off to 174 all out.
Goodman had a respectable claim for man of the match as he bagged three C&K wickets for 22 runs. There were two scalps each for Mali Marshall and Dillip Salinda.
