ABBOTSKERSWELL showed if they are going down from the A Division it won’t be quietly by handing out a 62-run beating to Thorverton.
Abbots, 32 points adrift at the bottom, are as good as relegated already. The issue is which of Tavistock (156pts), Plymstock (161), Kilmington (164), Thorverton (170) and perhaps even Hatherleigh (177) will be going with them.
James Tyler top scored in 78 not out for Abbotskerswell in their 50-over total of 212 for nine.
Opener and captain Ed Smout-Cooper made 46 and with Niall McCarthy chipping in with 27 Abbots reached 117 for four. Tyler did most of the rest after that.
Thorverton seamer Ben Slaviero took his league tally to 31 wickets for the season with a three-for-46 haul. Spinners Jake Choules and Andy Pitt took two wickets each.
Thorverton’s problem was the absence of an anchorman innings to pin a chase on.
The best of the scores in the top five were booked by Harry Choules (31) and Mickey Wilkinson, who made 21 against one of his former clubs.
There were three wickets each for Jay Hussain (3-40) and Inder Singh (3-27) as Thorverton faded to 150 all out. Par Singh bagged a brace.
