The Men’s Mid Devon League Division 1 played Shaldon B home and away, winning both matches. They then played away at Torbay CC, another great win against a tough side. They played Brixham on Saturday June 1 with another win, the only loss was against Babbacombe, highlighting a great start to the season, keep up the good work lads.
On to the ladies' side of things and there were wins for them in South Devon League 3 over Paignton and Paignton Torbay.
Next was Brixham Furzeham away, another win with 10 points and then on June 11, away at Brixham St Mary, another win on all three rinks on a very challenging green. Next was the match against Totnes and despite them being a very strong team, there were wins on two rinks and a draw on the third, earning nine league points.
Congratulations go to Marc Baker and Andrew Moore who played in the Devon County Pairs Major Championship on Sunday June 9 and enjoyed a great win. They then played a team from Shaldon on Wednesday June 12 with another strong win. Their next match being Wednesday June 19.
Keeping it in the family and Sue Owen and Katie Baker prevailed in their Devon County ladies pairs Major Championship on Sunday June 9 at Starcross. They then played on Wednesday 12 against Bitton Park, coming out on top once again.
Last year’s record-setting score of 52 points has been beaten already, the ladies' triple team of Stephanie Cheshire, Gerri Smith and Karen Pleace reaching 53 which included a hot shot (where all nine woods of one team score).
When it comes to non-bowls action, Marina held a quiz night on Friday 7. Dave and Tina Rowe were the hosts and they were greeted by a great atmosphere, the highlight being the confusion between King Charles III’s birthday and King Charles’ third birthday from an unnamed individual.
That rounds things up for the time being, now for the sun to come out and warm us all up a bit now- come on summer!
