MANY members at Newton Abbot Bowls Club will know that up until around 14 months ago, Brian Waitman, who had been Club Captain for a number of years, had to step down due to ill health, writes David Pickett.

Without going into any detail and having spoken to him at the time, some of us weren't sure we would ever see him again.

However, during the season just gone, Brian did come up to the club on a handful of occasions to watch games and although he needed the aid of sticks, it was said he was hopeful of playing again outdoors next season.

I am delighted to say he played a recent Indoor bowls match over 14 ends which has got to be a positive, but he has told me he is still prone to tiredness though after what he has gone through, anything is a bonus.

We wish you a full recovery and I hope to see him for an occasional indoor game or two.
