KINGSTEIGNTON Bowls Club action begins in the Y Division on August 26.

KBC travelled to Ipplepen and were beaten 48-26, with the home team claiming seven league points to one.

Kelvin 18-18 Bill Beech, Martin 30-8 Martin Redfern.

Skipper Bill Beech said poor old Martin’s rink drew the short straw as their opponents romped away with the game.

Next up, the following day, the X Division team played away on Shaldon’s lawn, another rearranged match.

Shaldon won 32.5-20 and the league points was 7-1 once again.

M. Parker 15-15 John Saunders; C. Nappin 17.5-5 Ian Westaway.

Shaldon had two bowlers rather than three on the latter rink and so had to lose 30% of their score but this didn’t make a huge difference either way.

Skipper John Saunders had a fortuitous shot on the last end of his game to force a draw.

Now for the final two matches of the season, with both the X and Y squads playing at home.

The X team played host to Newton Abbot on August 28 and remarkably, this ended in a draw, 37-37 (4-4 league points).

Ian Westaway 25-14 S Doyle; John Saunders 12-23 T Voisey.

Skipper John said that both rinks went down to the last end with Newton Abbot getting the shots they needed to force an aggregate draw. On the Saunders/Voisey rink, KBC dropped eight shots on the last three ends and skipper John was under pressure on each end to try and save the day, but to no avail.

John concluded by saying that there ends another season which was totally disappointing, but can only get better next year. He added some humour in his comments, saying that KBC were the strongest team in the league by holding all of the others up!

Finally, to the Y Division guys who welcomed Bitton Park to Kingsteignton on the same day.

52-28 was the final score in favour of KBC, claiming six league points to two as a result.

Bill Beech 14-16 C. Crowther; Martin Redfern 38-12 C. Darcy.

Bill labelled this as another great match against great friends from Bitton Park.

Martin’s rink stormed away with a seven on the second end after dropping one on the first, whilst Bitton never really got going. Well done to Martin’s team and credit to Bitton on Bill’s rink for their strong recovery.

Skipper Bill concluded by saying that it’s been a pleasure and a privilege playing with his team this season with his squad performing very well this year.

Special thanks go to Elly Riley and her helpers for most of the tea duties this season.

KBC Ladies have an annual competition coming up so keep your eyes peeled for that report next week.
