Permission has been granted for the owners of an Arabian horse livery and recuperation business to site a mobile home in the Teign Valley for three years. Willhayes Arabians, formerly know as Hoggs Heaven Farm, at Doddiscombsleigh, wanted permission for the temporary home in order to house a worker. An earlier application had been refused after planners considered that the van's siting on the ridge of a hill would make it too prominent. But after agreeing to position it lower down permission was recommended, although some councillors remained concerned. Cllr Keith Smith told his colleagues at Teignbridge Council's development Control Committee on Monday: 'This looks like a way of getting a permanent dwelling in the countryside that otherwise would not be allowed.' Cllr Vince Fusco argued that such 'monstrosities' should not be allowed and Cllr Vic Elliott rued the loss of 25 acres from a larger, sustainable farm. But at the vote councillors approved the application 13 - 9. Speaking in favour, Cllr Ray Frost said: 'We're living in changing times. the countryside is not what it was.'
