A NEW build centre at Trago Mills Newton Abbot will begin construction on Wednesday.
The centre will include a large DIY department with facilities for trade.
Plans for the building were approved last year around the time of the store’s 50th birthday celebrations.
A spokesman for the store said: ‘This is going to be a substantial development.
‘The build centre will be in a separate building to the main store – in the clearance section, originally the garden centre.
‘We will be demolishing part of the frame and building a much bigger facility for our DIY and trade customers.
‘This is a big project and is going to be amazing in terms of what we’ll be offering, both in terms of expanding our current DIY offer and the fact that we will also be geared up for the local building trade.
‘It’s part of our commitment to continue expanding on what we offer customers.’
A ‘turf cutting’ ceremony will mark the start of the development at 10am next Wednesday.
It will be attended by Keir, the company appointed for the construction; Trago Mills owner Bruce Robertson; store managing director Brent Pinhay; and councillors including leader of Teignbridge Council Jeremy Christophers.
