Who will get your vote in the Ipplepen Ward of Teignbridge Council, where one candidate will be your next councillors?

Here's some information on each of the candidates:

BORN in Aldershot the son of a professional soldier I left school in 1964 to become a indentured apprentice with the National Coal Board becoming a Colliery Electrician before joining the Royal Navy in 1969 where I served 23 years leaving as a Warrant Officer in 1992 to work for the Rugby Football Union as a Development Officer and Academy Manager/Coach with Northampton Saints and the East Midlands.

In 2003 I joined HM Prison Service as a Senior Manager Head of Offender Management& Learning and Skills.

I have been married to Liz for 40 years and we have two children, John a teacher who lives in New Zealand and Rachel who is the Manager of a hospital in Scotland that specialises in addiction services.

I have a keen interest politically and socially in the environment and community safety issues around housing and homelessness. 

I am standing as a South Devon Alliance candidate because I believe we have to vastly improve our local democracy, stop ignoring the climate crisis and ensure further house building is much more carefully planned. I’m Nicky Rayner. I’ve lived in Ipplepen for 18 years and I’m a retired college lecturer. 

Democracy begins with talking and listening to local people. We see the result of ignoring local feeling in the plans put forward for central Newton Abbot. This has to stop.

Housing should be for local people and must be affordable. New houses should be carefully planned with excellent all round insulation and solar panel tiles on the roof.

IT seems to me that the district is becoming more urban centric with spending more focussed on our towns rather than investment into our rural communities. 

If elected I will try to ensure that the Ipplepen community receives the appropriate support in terms of housing need and enhanced recreational facilities. 

I believe it is important that the council recognises these needs and works with the community to take the village forward. 

I also believe it is important that the needs of current and future generations are considered in terms of services, homes, jobs and leisure facilities taking into account the needs of the countryside environment.
