MAKE sure you vote on Thursday in the local elections.

Who will get your vote in the Buckland & Milber Ward of Teignbridge Council, where three candidates will be your next councillors?

Here's some information on each of the candidates:

BELINDA ANN BRINT, SOUTH DEVON ALLIANCE:

I’m Belinda Brint. I’ve lived in Teignbridge for over 30 years and bought up my five children here.

I’ve worked for over 30 years as a nurse in the NHS.

I’m passionate about preserving our beautiful green areas and reducing crime.

I worked for NHS England for violence reduction, and I’d like to look at ways to reduce crime with youngsters in our area by providing them with areas they can go to rather than wandering the streets.

I would like to become a member of the district council to ensure there is transparency in all council issues.

MON BURNS, HERITAGE PARTY:

My name is Monica. I am a mother and a grandmother, and I am standing as a Heritage Party candidate in the upcoming local election.

We have endured years of great disruption, but a crisis is the perfect opportunity to restore the principles and values that have been destroyed.

Every young British family should be able to buy their own home.

This means that the housing market must work for home buyers rather than big property developers.

I believe that only the Heritage Party’s principles and fair economic model can enable us to re-establish the sense of a healthy and happy local community that we have had in the past.

SUSAN JANE COLLMAN, GREEN PARTY:

I’M Susan Collman, Milber resident for nearly 40 years.

My interest in and valuing of natural and urban environments developed during my Geography degree and subsequent teaching career. I have played hockey for Newton Abbot, trodden the boards at the Alexandra Theatre, brought up my three children here, and am now Hon. Secretary for nadsa concerts, and part of the team greening Penn Inn roundabout. I want an improved public transport network, apprenticeships and jobs for our young people, a creative and cultural hub with the Alexandra Theatre at its core, and appropriate housing built by local firms to high energy efficiency standards.

We must encourage local businesses, and our communities must be able to influence local plans and decisions.

DAVID JOHN CORNEY WALKER, LIBERAL DEMOCRATS:

I have been past Mayor of Newton Abbot and have many years of experience as both a Town and District Councillor.

Formerly I worked as a technical college science teacher then went on to be a civil servant working for HMRC. I am now a beekeeper with a special interest in the preservation and enhancement of the natural environment.

My priorities include tackling climate change by supporting green energy schemes such as the provision of solar car ports over Teignbridge Council car parks and retrofit programmes to improve the energy efficiency of existing homes in the district.

I am keen to continue the building of council houses and delivering genuinely affordable homes in the area.  I am willing to listen and act on the concerns of local residents to enable sympathetic and environmentally friendly development.

KAREN TRACEY SUSAN CROUT CONSERVATIVE:

I have met Thousands of residents and I can guarantee your views about local matters are the same as mine, being part of the town council for the past four years was an eye opener if you only new the extent of money wasted by Town and District councils would leave you speechless,  then the anger hits in, its so wrong.

We’ve all to had to scrape to find money for bills and Council TAX you would hope this hard earned money would be wisely spent.

We all need to take a closer look at the accounts as it is our money being wasted.

This is the reason I made the decision to run for District Council.  Your vote matters.

TIMOTHY EDWARD DOBSON, HERITAGE PARTY:

MY name is Tim.

I am father and grandfather.

I run small local newsagent shop.

I am a Heritage Party Candidate and in line with the party manifesto I am determined to stand up for our families locally delivering the services and facilities we need.

As a shop keeper I am deeply concerned about the future of local businesses and their possibilities to prosper.

There are many decisions being made locally in Teignbridge that are part of a bigger picture nationally and internationally and, as a councillor, I would hope to help influence those to get the best outcome for our environment and therefore all our futures.

JANE HADEN - TRADE UNION & SOCIALIST COALITION:

I have lived most of my life in Newton Abbot, 30 plus years in Buckland, moving into council housing after being made homeless in the 1980s.

I will fight for good quality Council Housing that provides long term secure tenancies at a realistically affordable rent.

Ordinary working people are having to choose between food or heating.

It simply is not necessary nor is it something we should accept as just the way it is.

I will fight for good secure jobs, a proper living wage that reflects the real cost of living and levels of welfare benefits that allow those unable to work to live with dignity.

I am also a member of the Socialist Party and I will fight tooth and nail against further austerity.

ALEX JAMES HALL, SOUTH DEVON ALLIANCE:

Hello. My name is Alex Hall and I have lived in Newton Abbot my whole life.

At 21 I believe I am the youngest Councillor ever to serve on Newton Abbot Town Council.

I am honoured to represent residents and I think it is essential my generation get a say in the way our town and district are shaped.

I’ve worked in supermarkets and now work as a manager in a local independent shop.

I fully understand the pressures of working life and what is (and isn’t) provided for younger generations.

I am standing for the District Council with the South Devon Alliance because I believe that the people of Newton Abbot are fed up, it’s time to change the status quo.

MADELEINE HUNT, HERITAGE PARTY:

I AM a professional artist and lifelong animal rights campaigner.

I am passionate about preserving the natural and historic beauty of Devon and believes that poor administration and incompetent decision-making are causing damage to Devon’s natural beauty and cultural heritage. I want to restore and recreate the historic beauty of urban spaces that have been ruined, reduce business rates, and promote local produce. My aim is to provide residents with a clear breakdown of council tax. I believe that parents should have control over their children’s education and wants to encourage compassion for animals in schools. I also want all decisions made by the councils to be transparently consulted with local citizens and prioritise social housing for local residents. My mission is to take back local democracy and decision-making.

ANTHONY VINCENT JAMES, LIBERAL DEMOCRATS:

I worked for the NHS and I am now self-employed in the building trade.

From Welsh roots I settled in Teignbridge some years ago and I am committed to helping residents and making and keeping Teignbridge a great place to live.

JAMES WILLIAM OSBEN - TRADE UNION & SOCIALIST COALITION:

BUCKLAND is where I have chosen to live with my family.

My two daughters were quite literally born at home on the estate.

I am a registered mental health nurse in the NHS and my wife is a radiographer.

We both have strong values and principles and our entire careers have been about putting others before ourselves.

Like many of you, I have become disillusioned with the mainstream political parties who seem to care very little about ‘ordinary’ people.

I’m dismayed at the level of corruption there appears to be in our political system.

I want to make a difference by putting myself forwards to represent you locally. I will bring honesty, integrity, dedication and selflessness to politics in our community.

COLIN NEIL PARKER, LIBERAL DEMOCRATS:

I have lived in Buckland & Milber, for over 40 years. I have been a dedicated Town & District councillor for 16 years and I’m honoured to be past Mayor of Newton Abbot and was Chair of Teignbridge Council last year. I am also on every Newton Abbot Town Council Committee.

I was Newton Abbot Carnival treasurer and a committee member for 15 years. I am now the Chairman of the Community Trust trustees.

I was the Principal Councillor responsible for organising and securing funding for Buckland Skate Park. My priorities include: Planning issues and building truly affordable properties for local people. I am against the Westminster Government imposing high building targets. My other concerns are Climate Change, Speed Limits, Road Safety, Potholes, and poor walking and cycling conditions in the area.

STEPHEN DAVID POCOCK, GREEN PARTY:

THE Green Party will seek to implement its national policies at a local level.

We need to create a healthy social and natural inclusive environment for everyone not just the wealthy.

To provide decent affordable housing & accessible public transport encouraging clean green jobs for a vibrant local economy. To maintain Teignbridge as an attractive a pleasant place to live where natural and green spaces are protected for the future.

Although climate change is a global issue many solutions can be found at the local level Whether it is reducing demand through better design and building, insulating existing stock or producing clean energy through solar wind or water the Green Party is the only political party seriously seeking solutions.

MIKE RYAN, SOUTH DEVON ALLIANCE:

I have been a Councillor for Newton Abbot since 1988 and have always been involved in most of the councils events over many years.

I have been involved with the getting of the Buckland footbridge over the A380, a Doctor’s Surgery for the Estate, running the local Community Centre for 30 years and many other things for the town and this area.

I was chairman of Newton Abbot Carnival for 15 years organising the Carnival for the Town recently through the Newton Abbot league of friends got three defibrillators for Buckland and Milber.

I always said if you want anything you have to put yourself out and get it done.

I am now standing for the South Devon Alliance.
