MAKE sure you vote on Thursday in the local elections.

Who will get your vote in the Bradley Ward of Teignbridge Council, where two candidates will be your next councillors?

Here's some information on each of the candidates:

PHIL BULLIVANT, CONSERVATIVE:

Over the last four years as a Teignbridge Councillor I have had the privilege to support many people, charities and organisations with a diverse range of issues and needs.

Providing help is a key requirement and I will continue to do so if reelected.

I will work with the town council to deliver a working solution for turning the Alex Cinema into a cultural hub and revitalise the Market Hall to prevent its closure.

I will ensure that any homes built will be built to meet local need (not developer greed) within a framework to protect the environment and improve our climate credentials.

I will also focus on delivering better paid employment opportunities.

Everything I do will respect the needs of and improve prospects for future generations.’

RICHARD BUSCOMBE, LIBERAL DEMOCRATS:

I have an extensive background in Social Housing having worked in the sector throughout Devon and Cornwall for the last 30 years.

My specialist areas have been in supported housing and Community, resident and tenant involvement. For the eight years up until May 2021, I was a councillor on the Unitary Authority in Cornwall where amongst other responsibilities I chaired the Finance Scrutiny Committee.

In 2021, I moved Newton Abbot with my partner, a Newton Abbot girl, to be near her family.

If elected I would bring my expertise to bear in continuing to deliver genuinely affordable homes for local people both to buy and rent. I would also work to ensure that Teignbridge District Council becomes a Community Based Council which works with Town and Parish councils and the community at large to deliver commonly agreed objectives.

DAWN HALL, SOUTH DEVON ALLIANCE:

I was born and raised in Newton Abbot and have seen a vast number of big changes over the years to my hometown.

Up until the pandemic I was a regular stall holder in Newton Market on a Wednesday, and a regular member of Newton Abbot Ladies Skittle team.

This year I am standing as a Teignbridge Councillor.

As a Holistic Therapist part of my job is to listen and support my clients.

This is something I feel that the constituents of Teignbridge need, an ear to listen to them and a voice to speak on their behalf.

I would very much like to be your ears and your voice and part of the change this Council needs.

CHRIS JENKS, LIBERAL DEMOCRATS:

I have lived in Bradley ward since childhood, having gone to Bradley Barton and Coombeshead College.

I look forward to being able to work with the community to help deliver not just what the residents need but what they want in their local area.

RICHARD DAVID JENKS, CONSERVATIVE:

I am married with three grown up children and five grandchildren.

I have lived in Newton Abbot for over 27 years.

I served as Mayor for two years and have a passion for the area I live in.

It’s important that decisions at the council are made with the primary objective of benefiting our communities and improving the town and related areas.

LIN LAMBELL, SOUTH DEVON ALLIANCE:

I was born in Kingsteignton and have lived in Devon all my life. I attended South Devon College, and my daughters Wolborough Primary School and Knowles Hill Comprehensive.

I helped to set up and run the playgroup at St Leonards Church and was a committee member for South Devon RSPCA, setting up and running their Newton Abbot shop. I was also shop manager for The Mare and Foal charity and more recently, a volunteer at the HITS Foodbank in Newton Abbot.

I have always been passionate about environmental issues and been an active supporter of The Rivers Trust, Devon Badgers Trust and Greenpeace. My main concerns are the overdevelopment of agricultural land and the lack of doctors’ surgeries and schools.

PAUL DAVID WYNTER, GREEN PARTY

PAUL Wynter ran his own publishing business and is active in the community.

He delivered food parcels and prescriptions in the pandemic and has raised money for the village hall.

Paul has called for action on sewage pollution in our rivers and coastal areas, writing to Newton Abbot MP Anne Marie Morris about his concerns.

He is a regular litter collector on his daily dog walks, and makes sure to report potholes and other issues to the council.

Paul is a keen supporter of local energy generation and believes we all need to work to cut our energy use to help keep global warming within safe limits.

PAULINE ANGELA WYNTER, GREEN PARTY

PAULINE Wynter worked as a financial journalist on national newspapers and magazines.

Locally she has volunteered for Citizens Advice and is active on climate issues with Action on Climate in Teignbridge. She is also a parish councillor and a member of an award winning local wildlife group.

Pauline has called for higher standards in housing developments, including energy efficient homes equipped with heat pumps and solar panels.

She believes the council must reassess housing needs in the district and work more closely with town and parish councils to understand the needs of communities.

Imposing development with little real consultation is a recipe for disaster. She is working to create a fairer, greener district.
