A NEWTON Abbot art project to brighten up several of the town's subways was officially opened yesterday, Tuesday, July 25.

Dubbed the 'Tunnels of Love', the project, which is the brain child of Newton Abbot Community Interest Company (CIC) and was funded by Arts Council England and Teignbridge District Council, has brought colourful graffiti and artwork to the underpasses at Penn Inn Roundabout.

At the opening, Newton Abbot CIC's Lynn McElheron addressed the crowd, a speech which was followed by words from artist Kate Green, who was the creative driving force behind the project.

Other subways in the town, including the one aside the River Lemon near Asda, are to be spruced up too.
