A SEARCH dog team rescued an 80-year-old vulnerable man in the Higher Ashton area yesterday evening, Friday.
The Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team - Ashburton had been placed on standby to help in the search for the man.
At 6pm the full team were called out and more than 20 volunteers and five Mountain Rescue Search Dogs and their handlers (who were in Devon on a training weekend) attended.
On their Facebook page Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team - Ashburton reports: ‘The Search teams were deployed to high probability areas and at approximately 20:00hrs the gentleman was found safe and well by one of the search dog teams.
‘He was assessed by the team's casualty carers and then handed over to his family.
‘Thanks to our team members who gave up their Friday evening and the dog teams from as far away as the Peak District, North East England and North Dartmoor.
‘Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team - Ashburton also wants to thank the residents of Higher Ashton, who supported us by providing our team members with cake, biscuits and buns.
