The woman who died after being struck by a car at The Willows last week has been named as Bovey Tracey resident Mary Gray.
An inquest into the 81-year-old’s death was opened on January 16.
Emergency services were called to the Marks and Spencer’s car park at The Willows in Torquay at around 4.20pm on Thursday January 9 after a red Citroen C3 was in collision with a pedestrian.
The inquest heard that Mary, a retired hospitality assistant, was walking behind a vehicle when it began slowly reversing. ‘There was some contact between the vehicle and Mary, which caused her to fall and hit her head’, the coroner reported.
CPR was performed at the scene and the air ambulance attended. Mary was taken to Derriford Hospital where she sadly died after a CT scan revealed an unsurvivable brain injury.
The provisional cause of death has been cited as a subdural haemorrhage and brain stem haemorrhage due to a fractured skull.
The inquest into Mary’s death was adjourned and a full hearing will take place at a later date.
