A WARNING has been issued to pet owners by a Kingsteignton-based vets after treating a dog which had been bitten by an adder.
The confirmed incident took place at Haldon Forest with Kingsteignton Veterinary Group treating another pooch after it was bitten in its owners back garden in Teignmouth, but this case is unconfirmed.
The serpents are the only venomous snake native to Britain but are rarely aggressive and only use their venom as a last resort of defence, usually when they have been disturbed.
If you think your pet has been bitten, you should seek veterinary attention quickly.
