BUS passengers in Newton Abbot are being warned of major delays to the 12 service due to construction work in Torbay.
Stagecoach services on that route have been running more than an hour late as lights, needed for a new housing development outside Brixham, came into force.
On Monday evening, the service was running about 50 minutes late.
The 12 service between Newton Abbot and Brixham is scheduled to run every 12 minutes during the day.
A ‘friendly’ bus driver, writing on social media, said: ‘Road works have now started at Windy corner, these will be in place for three months.
‘As a result, the no 12 service is already seriously affected with services running over an hour late. ‘Please, please please don’t take your frustrations out on us drivers, it’s completely out of our control.
‘We will do our very best to keep you moving, but please expect delays and probably missing services.’
There have been numerous reports of buses running late, up to an hour in some cases.
Drivers are equally affected, describing the situation as ‘chaos’.
Temporary traffic lights are in place at Windy Corner as part of work on the Inglewood new housing development.
One passenger said the lights in Brixham had a ‘knock on effect’ causing major delays to bus services yesterday.
The same issue appears to be the case today with passengers describing the service as ‘diabolical’.
Advice has been issued by police in Brixham to use public transport while the lights are in place but one passenger asked how when bus journeys are being cancelled.
The traffic lights could be in place for up to three months.
Stagecoach has been approached for a response.
