Newton Abbot Mayor David Corney-Walker, competitors, escorts, family members and judges enjoyed a thoroughly successful competition in the sun. They assembled at The British Legion for pre-competition procedures before heading to St Leonards Tower for the competition.
The hometown base cry was followed by a hometown cry from each competitor, and the second cry had a theme of ‘Sweets’ which was cleverly worked into cries through songs and puns.
Kelly Burridge, Event Co-ordinator for Newton Abbot Town Council said, ‘It was fantastic to be able to invite them all back again two years later,' after the event last year was cancelled.
As well the competition, The Clock Tower was open for tours, free crafts with Creative Newton Abbot and free face painting and balloon modelling. People out enjoying the sunshine stayed to watch competition.
‘It was probably one of our best competitions, even though it was insanely hot, it was absolutely fantastic.’
