A TOWN council marking its fiftieth anniversary is looking to make contact with previous councillors and staff members as part of its celebrations.
The year is 1974, Mick Taylor leaves The Rolling Stones after six years, John Lennon joins Elton John on stage at Madison Square Gardens in what would turn out to be his last stage performance and, most importantly of all, Newton Abbot Town Council is formed.
Newton Abbot Town Council wants to contact people who either served as a town councillor or as a member of staff.
‘If this was you or you know anyone please can you contact the office on 01626 201120 or [email protected]’ a spokesperson for the council said.
The political shake-up that was the Local Government Act 1972 saw Teignbridge District Council replace Newton Abbot Urban District Council.
And so, on April 1, 1974, Newton Abbot Town Council came into being, replacing the former district council.
