TWO Newton Abbot-based organisations are hundreds of pounds better off thanks to grants from the town council.

Newton Abbot Town Council were pleased to award Green Futures and Newton Abbot Community Shed with grants.

The former received £650 toward continuing its work to improve habitats, increase pollinators, monitor and reduce the use of pesticides in the community, as well as for litter picks and other events of a similar sort.

Newton Abbot Community Shed received £963, which is to go toward the purchase of equipment, tools, additional power sockets, as well as to help cover insurance costs.

Councillors thanked the organisations for their outstanding work in the community.
