CORONAVIRUS may have dealt another blow to the high street as the future of Newton Abbot’s cinema hangs in the balance.

An announcement by Scott Cinemas, the owners of Newton Abbot’s Alexandra Cinema, failed to inspire confidence last week as the company stated it ‘hoped’ to re-open in spring.

The announcement detailed just how hard a year it had been for the cinema chain, and for the industry generally.

The cinema will close, for what is hoped to be only a temporary period after the October half term holiday, with the aim of re-opening in Spring 2021.
