HOLNE will be punching above its weight when it welcomes world famous tenor Mark Padmore to a fundraising concert in the village church later this month.
Padmore, a regular performer at London’s Wigmore Hall, has sung in some of the world’s great concert halls and with many of its leading orchestras.
It is a substantial coup for the Dartmoor village to host a performer described in one national highbrow newspaper as someone ‘at the peak of a front-ranking international career as one of the world’s most cultivated and intelligent classical tenors.’
He will be accompanied on the night of November 28 (7.30pm) by internationally renowned Mexican guitarist Morgan Szymanski.
The tenor will perform a programme by Dowland, Roth, Schubert and Tippett.
Concert organiser Judy Henderson enthused: ‘We are very excited and so lucky to have a singer of Mark’s calibre coming to Holne.’
She added: ‘The concert will also be a fundraiser for the church so the ticket money is going to a good local cause.’
