A Teignmouth town councillor is launching informal walking surgeries in a bid to be more accessible and connect better with residents.
Councillor Steve Walsh believes traditional council meetings and surgeries can be too formal for some. He hopes ‘Ramble with your Councillor’ will enable him and other councillors to be more visible and give them the opportunity to listen to more residents.
‘Being out walking in the fresh air is a much nicer way of connecting with people and being more visible in the town,’ Councillor Walsh said. ‘It’s a different way of doing things,’ he added.
Councillor Walsh will be starting his stroll along the seafront towards Holcombe at 10am on Saturday June 8 meeting at the lighthouse in the Point car park.
Anyone is welcome to come along for some, or all, of the walk. There is no set agenda, just the opportunity to chat informallyCoun, ask questions and share ideas.
Councillor Walsh, who might be recognised by fans of the Back Beach Boyz, will be trialling the walks every three or four weeks over the next couple of months. If they prove popular, they could become a weekly event with fellow councillors also joining in.
Elected to the Town Council just over a year ago, Councillor Walsh is keen to breathe new life into Teignmouth. ‘I’m proud of our town; it’s a great resource,’ he said. I want to bring some energy,’ he added.
