THE Commonwealth flag was raised in Teignmouth and Dawlish to mark the annual Commonwealth Day celebration.

Mayor of Teignmouth Cllr Iain Palmer raised the flag in the Triangle at the ceremony which was attended by Deputy Mayor Joan Atkins and Cllr David Cox, chairman of the Chamber of Trade and Commerce Keith Underhill and Teignmouth’s town crier.

In Dawlish Cllr Lisa Mayne, the Mayor of Dawlish, read the Commonwealth Day Affirmation and Lieutenant Commander Tom Elliott MBE hosted the Commonwealth Flag with prayers said by Mark Jones representing Christians Together in Dawlish and District.

The event has been held in March since 1977 to celebrate the Commonwealth of Nations.
