BEACHES in Teignbridge were among the several hit by sewage alerts after yesterday’s heavy rain.

Dawlish Town, Shaldon and Teignmouth Holcombe were among the more than 30 beaches identified by marine conservation charity, Surfers Against Sewage (SAS), as areas where sewage has been discharged into the sea.

The alert means that sewage has been discharged from a sewer overflow in the location within the past 48 hours.

This comes as SAS revealed that there has been 1,000 sewage discharges across the South West in a span of just three days.

South West Water has let slip more than 1,000 sewage discharges between February 19 and February 21, the charity revealed.
