A STUDENT from Dawlish has been recognised by the University of Worcester for her outstanding academic achievements.

Maya Goldsworthy was awarded with the LLB Prize for Academic Achievement, recognising her outstanding work throughout the 2023/24 academic year.

She said she was glad to achieve the award and had spent the money given to her mainly on academic textbooks, but also some fiction books.

The 19-year-old is a second year Law with Politics student.

She came to Worcester after being impressed by what she saw on an Open Day, in particular the welcoming atmosphere.

She said: ‘When I came on an Open Day all the staff and students seemed really friendly and approachable.

‘I also liked the idea of smaller class sizes in comparison to other universities. I have appreciated that and feel it creates a more friendly and approachable atmosphere.’

The former pupil at Teign School, Kingsteignton, said being at university had helped her develop as a person.

She said: ‘I have found it challenging.

‘However, I feel my self-confidence, interests and curiosity to learn more has also grown.

‘I have joined both the Mooting and Public Speaking clubs which I believe have helped significantly as well as university and getting to know new people generally.’

As for the future, Maya has not yet decided on her career path.

She said: 'I am still considering on what I would like to do post university.

‘However, I am hoping to pursue a career in law, possibly as either a solicitor or even a barrister.’

University of Worcester Provost, Ann Jordan, said: ‘We are very proud of all our students who earned an Academic Scholarship or prize this year.

‘These students achieved highly in their studies and their commitment and hard work is something to be recognised and celebrated.

‘We hope this award will inspire them to further academic success in their future studies.’
