A COUPLE who took on a pub shortly before the pandemic have officially been handed the keys after running the business for two years, writes Ross Bryant.
Publican couple, Paul and Ness Moir, fell in love with The Cridford Inn at Trusham in 2018 and decided to take on the pub.
Testing times were soon upon the hospitality industry however, as the pandemic forced the pumps to run dry.
The lockdown saw the team at the Cridford hit their stride, as they organised a farmers market and takeaway food service.
The couple said that they owe part of their success to the community spirit seen throughout the pandemic, which forged even stronger ties with locals in the Teign Valley.
Paul said: ‘During the lockdown, we discovered just how strong the community spirit is here. We kept things local and forged strong ties with lots of producers in the area. We started a farmers market and it’s been a great success.’
He added: ‘We want to thank everyone who’s supported us.’
Susan Burdge, the former owner of the Cridford, who also owns The Nobody Inn at Doddiscombsleigh, said that although she was ‘gutted’ to hand over the keys, it couldn’t have been to a more suitable couple.
She said: ‘Congratulations to Paul and Ness on the purchase of The Cridford Inn. Paul and Ness became tenants of the Inn back in 2018 and quickly became an integral part of village life.
‘It’s an accolade to them that whilst trading through some of the most difficult periods in the hospitality industry, they never wavered in their commitment to the Inn and its locals.’
She added: ‘They and their team have built a vibrant business offering comfortable accommodation... and a delicious menu too.’
