FROM star gazing to shark hunting on land, here are some ideas for the half-term holiday activities being run by Countryside Rangers.

Teignbridge Council has announced the following in its Green Spaces news and events newsletter:

Shark hunting on land! Wednesday, 15 February, 10.30am - 12pm, Dawlish Warren Nature Reserve.

FREE activity for seven to 11-year-olds. A beach walk hunting for mermaid’s purses - the egg case of small sharks and rays! Clean them up to keep whilst learning about them and reporting our findings to the Great Egg-case Hunt! Please wear warm and waterproof clothing.

Meet at the Visitors centre. You may leave your children with us for this activity. No dogs permitted. We thank Dawlish Coasters Running Club for its generous sponsorship of Dawlish Warren Nature Reserve activities.

Simple Stargazing: Monday, 13 February, 7pm-8.30pm, Decoy Country Park.

Tuesday, 14 February, 7pm -8.30pm, Dawlish Countryside Park.

£3.20 adults £1.60 children 01626 215751 to book and pay by card. Evening event for all the family. Come and take a closer look at the stars through a telescope and learn about their formations. A mug of hot chocolate will help keep you warm as you gaze upward but remember to wear warm clothes and footwear too. Note this event will not go ahead unless the sky is clear. Pancakes and green woodworking: Sunday 19 February, 1pm - 4pm, Decoy Country Park.

Free for all the family. Come and craft your own spatula from Sycamore and flip your own pancakes.

Bushcraft skills: Monday 23 February, 1 - 3pm, Dawlish Countryside Park.

Free activity for 7 to 16-year-olds. Come along to learn outdoor skills.

Remarkable rodents: Wednesday 5 April, 10.30am - 12pm, Dawlish Warren Nature Reserve – Free activity for 7 to 11-year-olds. Find out about tiny mammals living nearby and about the rare water voles living at the nature reserve.

Looking further ahead, there’s an Easter treasure hunt. Thursday 6 April, 11am - 3pm. Dawlish Warren Nature Reserve. Drop-in activity £1pp. Follow the Treasure Trail around the nature reserve and collect your chocolate egg when you finish! Meet at the Visitors centre. Dogs on leads only.
