MEMBERS from one of Teignbridge’s chess clubs were joined by one of the abstract strategy game’s Grandmasters for a simultaneous display.

At a recent meeting, Newton Abbot Chess Club (NACC) welcomed chess Grandmaster Keith Arkell for his second simultaneous display; a simultaneous display is a board game exhibition in which one player plays multiple games at a time with a number of other players.

Keith won the English Chess Championship in 2008 and in 2014 he was European Senior (50+) Champion.

NACC is as thriving today as it was back in 2005 when it was founded.

With more than 30 members, many of whom are junior players, Newton Abbot Chess Club meets every Thursday between late September and May at the Courtenay Centre.

Members are drawn from the whole of South Devon and compete in the Torbay Chess League.
