BOVEY Tracey’s Young Citizen of the year has finally received her framed certificate.
Carys Gwillam was unable to attend the recent Town Council meeting, so Cllr Tony Allen, who has co-ordinated the community awards scheme since their inception, paid a special visit to the town’s Scout hut to make the presentation.
Carys has been an active member of the Bovey Tracey Scout group since joining at the age of six as a Beaver Scout. As she’s grown she has passed through all the sections available to the Scouts.
She was nominated for all the work she has done thoughout the last two years of lockdown, volunteering to assist in the Cub Scout section on Tuesday nights.
A spokesman for the town council said: ‘This has been invaluable to them and the Scouting leaders.
‘With her dedication and commitment, she has become a great role model for the Bovey Scouting youngsters.’
Next year Carys will be traveling to the World Scout Jamboree in Korea as a member of the international service team for the UK contingent. The Jamboree will see some 30,000 Scouts gather from around the world.
