DARTMOUTH Primary School has hit the stage once again with another hilarious performance by pupils of Years 5 and 6.

Asterix and the Roman Baths was a light-hearted, but not always historically correct, story set in ancient 'Dartemouth' following the story by a local woman, Mrs Perkins (played by Jade Barnes) and a group of builders of a hot water spring in her cellar.

After enlisting the support of the Time Busters the cast travelled back in time to meet Pontius Bumptious and Helena, governor and governess of Aquae Sulis (Bath), Alexis Ceaser and the Roman centurians plotting to conquer the area to the south of Brutus Bridge at Totnes.

The play followed the spring term studies of the history of the Celts and Romans in Britain by 75 older junior children of the school. In addition to their school based studies they were fortunate to visit the Celtic Hill Fort at Blackdown Rings, near Kingsbridge, the Roman exhibition at Exeter Museum, and the famous Roman Baths at Bath to see at first hand how the Romans and Celts would have lived.

The Time Busters were played by Jenny Pigott, Laura Tomlinson, Matthew Tremlett, Ben Hamilton, Brett Hall, Oliver Read and Karl Memory.

The play was produced by teachers Sarah Pritchard, Jenny Bailey and Tony Hoile, with costumes by Liz Young and songs by Jan Stroud.

A display of work reflecting the children's studies of the Celts and Romans can be seen at Dartmouth Library.
