DIVISION One side Telecoms were forced to an extra leg by third division Ringers before they prevailed in their Newton Abbot and District Skittles League Woodbine Cup preliminary, on Forde Hall alley two.

The two were locked on 383 apiece after the regulation six ends before Telecoms took the decider 77-67.

Alan Saunders finished the seven legs on 73 for Telecoms, and Dave Biddlescombe top scored on 70 for the visitors.

Ringers fared more favourably against sixth division Abbots in the Brinton Cup preliminary getting home 358-355 on Kingsteignton Royal British Legion one.

Biddlescombe was joint best with Jeanette Taylor on 50, while Nick Bowhay returned 59 for Abbots.

For the opening preliminary round skirmishes there was some high scoring. Bottlewashers fuelled by Richard Pike's 66, flattened Ladybirds 445-357 in their Brinton local derby at Newton Abbot RBL.

Also in the Brinton, Kestrels came up with a 432-417 win in their all Premier clash with Aardvarks, on their visit to the Oakford Club. Kestrels' Kristian Ball scored 64 and Aardvarks' Margaret Saxton ended the night on 62.

The same competition and alley saw Teignton Stars defeat Alleycats 432-351 with Barry Crocker hitting 71 (9, 8, 16, 12, 8, 18) for the winners and Jude Hewlett 49 for the visitors.

In the Woodbine, Division Two team All Whites surprised Premier outfit Cricketers with a 411-398 away win on Kingsteignton RBL one, with anchor John Vincent leading the way on 65. For Cricketers Chris Hunt registered 58.
