The stewards of a Grade 1 listed church in Ashcombe are appealing for volunteers to help with restoration work.

St Nectan’s in Ashcombe ‘is starting to look its age of 766 years’, a spokesperson said.

Work has already taken place to fix guttering to prevent rain from soaking into the walls. However, volunteers are needed to help prepare the church for redecoration.

A restoration morning is taking place on Saturday June 7 from 9am until 1pm.

Volunteers are needed to scrape off the old paint. Ideally, they will come armed with scrapers, stepladders and dustpans.

The team also hopes to attract builders to repair some of the churchyard wall that has fallen down.

Green fingered volunteers will also be welcome to help weed the drive and clean up the lych gate.
