RESIDENTS of Newton Abbot stood shoulder to shoulder with one another last night [March 25] as a sign of respect for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people.
More than 50 people, many of whom lit and held a candle as a mark of respect, attended the vigil organised by Newton Crisis Aid.
Jacky Bennett of Newton Crisis Aid who helped organise the event said:
‘It’s been a collective effort of about five or six of us
‘It is just to show support, that’s all it is really, and to recognise that what’s going on in Ukraine is something that we never thought would happen.’
The vigil is the second organised by Newton Crisis Aid, the first was held on Saturday March 5 by the town’s war memorial along Queen Street.
