PREPARATIONS are underway for this year’s Remembrance Day events.
In Newton Abbot, the War Memorial has been decorated with 800 hand-knitted poppies ahead of the Remembrance Sunday service on November 12.
The task was carried out on by volunteers from the town council, Museum and local Royal British Legion.
Newton Abbot Town Council events co-ordinator Natalie Hicks said: ‘A big thank-you to my team of volunteers who helped me attach all 800 knitted poppies to the railings around the War Memorial this morning.
‘Also of course to all those who created these stunning poppies.
‘As always this creates a big impact and visually looks remarkable.’
The parade through town and service are due to take place 10am to 11.30am and will be streamed live via the town council’s Facebook page.
Natalie added: ‘We would be honoured should anyone choose to join us to remember the fallen, either in person or via our Facebook page.’
In Dawlish, the Poppy Wall is making a return and will run from November 1 to 14.
Handmade poppies will again be hung along the railing on the Lawn, supported by Dawlish Bowling Club.
The Poppy Wall is organised by Dawlish Town Council and everyone is invited to add their own knitted or crocheted poppy.
Last year, there were more than 1,000 poppies added to the wall.
Any remaining were taken down and dried out and, if in good condition, will be reused this year.
On Armistice Day, Saturday November 11, Dawlish Town Council and Dawlish Branch of the Royal British Legion will hold the two minute silence at 11am at the Poppy Wall.
In Teignmouth, Armistice Day will be marked with a two minute silence with the Mayor, councillors and representatives of the armed services in the Triangle.
And on Remembrance Sunday, November 12, Red Rock Acapella will be performing between 10am and 10.20am followed by a service at the War Memorial on the seafront where standard bearers and marching detachments will assemble at 10.25am.
