TRAIN enthusiasts were out in force in south Devon over the weekend for the appearance of several beloved locomotives.

After a 10 year absence, the ex LNER 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley, with the 47712 ScotRail’s Lady Diana Spencer at its rear, were seen passing through Dawlish. 

The charter trip saw the 1937 A4 class steam train Sir Nigel Gresley, named after the British engineer, travel through south Devon.

The Doncaster-built locomotive, which is run by a charitable trust, passed through Dawlish Warren, Dawlish and Newton Abbot before heading to Kingswear. 

Eager enthusiasts saw the trains, with Sir Nigel in blue livery, pass Marine Parade and Coryton Cove in Dawlish and through Kennaway Tunnel.

Also over the weekend, the Northern Belle with Scarborough Castle at its rear, also passed through Dawlish.
