A POPULAR farm shop has gone up for sale with a price tag of £225,000.
Powerham Farm Shop cafe and bistro is now on the market as the current owners want someone else to take over the business.
In the grounds of historic Powderham Castle which is home to the Earl of Devon, the business also features a community Post Office, butchers, off licence, pet supplies and delicatessen.
Owners Tom and Leanne Klinkenberg want to step back from the day-to-day running and leave it ‘in good hands’ after growing and improving the business over the past five years.
The business trades alongside a selection of businesses, including a plant centre, clothing, and home furnishings shops.
The farm shop offers a range of local and regional produce from quality local suppliers and incorporates a butchery counter, delicatessen, off-licence, and gift area, pet supplies, fruit and vegetables.
The small community Post Office has been incorporated into the main serving counter.
A separate bistro, The Orangery, offers homemade food to eat in or takeaway together with a range of hot and cold drinks and Devon Cream Tea.
As well as visitors to the castle, the business also benefits from several large festival events held on the estate each year.
Tom said: ‘We thought we could make something special and we’ve made quite a lot of changes, all for the better.
‘With our combined turnover now more than £1.5million, the hard work is done.
‘It’s all set up for someone to come in and keep rolling. We just want more time together as a family.
‘We’ve got two young children and I now work away full time in London, so we don’t see much of each other.
‘We bought the farm shop in 2018 and acquired the Orangery Bistro in 2020, we have traded well through the pandemic, but family time is genuinely more important to us now.’
He added: ‘It’s a fantastic business.
‘There are so many visitors to the castle which really drives our trade, and it seems to get more and more popular each year.
‘We want to find someone to care about it as much as we do.’
The business has been placed on the market with Devon-based property agents Charles Darrow with a guide price of £225,000.
