After six weeks of campaigning, polling stations have opened across Teignbridge for the 2024 General Election.

Polling stations opened their doors at 7am this morning and are open until 10pm tonight. If it’s busy at the end of the evening, voters will be able to vote as long as they are in the queue by 10pm.

There are two seats in Teignbridge: Newton Abbot and Central Devon; both are expected to be hotly contested.

In Newton Abbot the candidates are: Jacob Cosens (Lab), Annaliese Cude (Volt UK – the Pan-European party), Christopher Hilditch (Reform UK), Anne Marie Morris (Con), Liam Mullone (South Devon Alliance), Andre Sabine (Heritage Party), Martin Wrigley (Lib Dem), Pauline Wynter (Green).

Anne Marie Morris (Con) won the seat in 2019 with a 17,501 majority. 

In Central Devon the candidates are: Jeffrey Leeks (Reform UK), Ollie Pearson (Lab), Arthur Price (Ind), Mel Stride (Con), Gill Westcott (Green), Mark Wooding (Lib Dem).

The seat was held by Mel Stride (Con), an MP since 2010 with a 17,721 majority.

Results are expected to be announced between 3am and 5am tomorrow (Friday July 5) and the Mid Devon Advertiser will be at the count bringing you the latest news as it happens.

The first person to arrive at the polling station at Teignmouth’s Bitton House was Aaron Cleland, who opted to cast his vote at 7am before heading to work.

Voters are being reminded to bring photographic ID. There are 22 types of accepted ID including passports, driving licences and bus passes.
